Animal heroes: Leo

While it is not surprising to see statues built to remember the works and actions of famous people, few animals get statues built to commemorate their brave acts in showing courage and love. One of such rare cases is the Leo dog statue in Serbia.

Leo was a name of a dachshund living in Serbia, that sacrificed its life to save an 11-year old girl that was being attacked by a bull mastiff, way bigger than its size.
Seeing the girl attacked by a bigger dog, Leo, who was talking a walk in a park with its owner, started attacking the bull mastiff's leg in hopes of distracting to dog and giving the girl a chance to escape. While the girl managed to escape, Leo was fatally wounded, ultimately resulting in the dog's death.

According to Leo's owner, the dachshund was given its name for always having a heard as big as a lion despite its small size.

To commemorate the act of such courage, a Leo's statue was built in Pacenvo City park, where it can watch over all of the children playing. The quote underneath the statue reads “To all small heroes with big hearts,” which is a true testament to the courageous nature of little Leo.
