Faith in humanity restored: People on Reddit helping out strangers

When I feel like I need my faith in humanity restored quickly, I find that nothing does the job better than hearing (or more often than not, reading ðŸ˜‰) about people helping other people. There is just something about strangers doing good (even if small) deeds for people they have not seen and will probably never see that makes us all feel fuzzy and nice. And inspires to do the same, I hope!

And as it turns out, Reddit community is the best at showing how this anonymous social platform can also become a medium to do good and help out those in need.

We’ve checked our favorite subreddits and collected a few of our favorite stories of redditors helping other redditors 😊

1. That one time redditors helped a struggling newcomer to settle in a new country by offering a meal and finding & helping to pay for his accommodation

A bit of context: this awesome guy used to live in Malaysia, tried to change around his life after feeling desperate and suicidal, taught himself motion graphics and despite his hurdles got a job in Singapore. However, the first week of the move was very difficult as he struggled to find accommodation needed for his work permit so that he could work officially in Singapore, he was almost starving and he was running out of resources, since he came from a poor family and barely had the resources to actually move away. He turned to reddit to vent about his struggles. However, what he received was much more than just virtual support, advice and kind words --  many redditors sent messages offering help. Moreover, he actually met up with two redditors “who have really helped survive the week” by offering food, support; fixed him up with a flat and even paid part of the amount needed!

Update after the first post:

2. That one time redditors donated a medical bed to another redditor’s disabled dad

3. That one time redditors chipped in and bought tickets for a mother who could not afford to take her daughter to the Zoo

4. That one time a father asking for advice on a more affordable gift for Christmas was surprised by a redditor who bought and shipped the gift the boy wanted

5. That time a redditor asked for advice on what to feed his dog while temporarily broke and more than a dozen redditors offered to have dog food mailed to him for free
